Snakes

Snakes may have evolved from lizards that lost their limbs during evolution.
All snakes are carnivorous and can be distinguished from legless lizards by their lack of eyelids, limbs, external ears, and vestiges of forelimbs.

Snakes occurring in the British Isles:

- Grass Snake, Natrix natrix
- Smooth Snake, Coronella austriaca
- Adder, Vipera berus
- Aesculapian Snake, Zamenis longissimus
